Midterm week is here, well at least for me it is. Which means lots of assignments and loads of stress. College is tough, I am not going to lie. I am in a dual certification program working towards getting my degree in Elementary and Special Education. Which means a lot of studying, and a lot of late nights. But what I tell myself, in the end, it will all be worth it. I want to share some of my tips to help you survive midterm week.
- Make Flashcards
Flashcards have changed the way I study. I make flashcards for everything that I need to know for an exam. Then I review them like crazy. My test taking skills have improved greatly when I started using flashcards.
- Get a Good Night’s Sleep
I have heard this from so many professors. Sleep is essential and you cannot survive without it! (It is scientifically proven!) I try to at least get a good six-hour sleep before I have a huge exam or project. Being overtired is not a good idea when it comes to taking a big test. Pulling an all-nighter does not actually help you!
- Go to Office Hours
Every professor has a set of office hours, which is when they are available. I have gone multiple times to get help from professors. This is a great opportunity to get extra support and personalized time with your professor. Going to office hours will also show your professor that you care! (Sometimes they will even add extra bonus points for you going to office hours!)
- Work with your Peers
I had a professor once recommend making a friend in every class. Obviously, you don’t have to best friends with the person but have someone in every class that you can reach out to if you missed class or need to clarify something, etc. I have tried to do this in all the classes I take. Most of my classes have the same people in them since they are required for our major. But it is a great resource to have when it comes time to study. Maybe try getting a together with a couple of people from your class and having a study session. This can help a lot when it comes down to exam time.
- Take Some Steps to Destress
I have mentioned this before but stressing out will not help you at all. Stress has been proven by psychologists to be bad for your brain. Taking some time every day to detox and destress is good for you. I did a post a while back talking about “Tips for Living a Stress-Free Life” if you want to read further of how to destress you can search for the article in the search bar above.
I hope that some of these tips can help you if you are getting ready for midterm week. I wish you all good luck on your midterms!

I always do so much better on tests and projects when I get help from teachers. They help me figure out what I’m doing wrong and are really encouraging.
