Best Self Tanning Products + Self Tanning Tips

Today, I want to share some of my favorite products to get my tan & glow on. I have tried so many self tanners so that I could recommend the best  one for you. I get tons of questions on how I stay tan all year long and what are my favorite products to use, I wanted to write a full blog post about it so that you can refer back to it and have all the links to the products.

My favorite self tanner of all time is Fake Bake Self-Tan Darker Liquid I picked this tanner up at Ulta and I fell in love with it! You can actually purchase it on Amazon for $20. This self tanner was different for me because rather than it being a mouse, or a spray it is a liquid. Which can sound intimidating but it isn’t at all! The kit comes with two latex gloves as well as a mitt to apply the product. I use both the gloves and the mitt to apply the tanner. With this specific self tanner I will spray the liquid onto the mitt and then rub it into my skin in circular motions. I don’t recommend spraying the liquid onto your skin directly because the liquid does dry quickly. If you want an even darker tan I recommend applying a layer letting it dry and then applying a second layer. Overall, I would say that the bottle is a pretty good size and it lasts! I have applied the tan about 5 times and still have over half the bottle. The tan lasts about a full week if you properly take care of it.

⋆ TIP: Apply a thick lotion to any dry areas on your body before applying the self tanner. For example, apply it to your knees, feet, elbows, wrists, hands, etc. By doing this it will help the self tanner look the most natural in those spots.

Another self tanner that I tried and liked was the Loving Tan 2 HR Express in Dark. I prefer the 2 HR Express tan just because the color develops faster so if I need to be somewhere in two hours I know that I can be tan. This is a mousse and does have a color guard, meaning that you can see the product as you apply it. This tan has some olive undertones so it looks incredibly natural. The mousse is on the pricey side and I feel like I am going through a bottle every month. The tanner does not include any mitt or gloves. I love the color pay from this self tanner. If you take care of the tan it can last about 4-5 days.

TIP: Apply the self tanner before you head to bed and wear dark colored pjs. When you wake up in the morning take a shower and rinse off. You may be concerned that your tan is washing off but don’t worry it isn’t this is just the color guard. You will be left with a gorgeous and natural tan.

A drugstore self tanner that I tested out was the Jergens Natural Glow Instant Sun Mousse this product can be found for around $12. I personally felt like this gave me more of an orange glow. This is a mousse so I apply in circular motions making sure to blend the product completely into the skin. For this product in particular I would recommend waiting to redress about fifteen minutes because this product stays a little tacky. I recommend applying this product with a mitt because this will definitely stain your hands!

TIP: Always exfoliate before you apply self tanner as well as shave your legs. I personally love using an exfoliating mitt. This makes sure to remove any dead skin and any previous self tanner. Exfoliating will make your tan look as natural as possible.

The final self tanner that I want to mention is the St. Tropez Mousse  this was one of the first ones that I ever tried. It is on the more expensive side but it is well worth it. This tanner gave me a nice glow and it lasts! On me this tan could last up to a week. Something that I love about this self tanner is that it looks natural and is easy to apply. This tanner has been talked about like crazy and with good reason!

TIP: Apply lotion everyday to ensure that your tan will last. I recommend using one that has as little chemicals as possible. If it does have any chemicals it will break down the tanner and may make it look splotchy.

All of these tanners in my opinion are the best of the best. I wouldn’t be recommending them to you if I did not love them. By far the one that I can’t recommend to you most is the Fake Bake Self- Tan Darker Liquid this one lasts and looks the most natural. If you love to glow and have a tan all year long these are the products for you!

I really hope that this blog post was helpful for you. I worked so hard and tried so many different tanners to find my favorites for you. If you have any self tanners that you love leave them in the comments because I love trying new ones.
