Personally, I went from being a total night owl to a morning person within a couple of months. I use to be able to stay up late and now I am lucky if I make it to 10 pm. You’re probably thinking girl are you crazy?! But I swear I’m not, I just have changed my habits.
I have come up with my best tips to becoming an early riser. Mind you I am not suggesting that you start waking up at 5 am. Work yourself up to that, by waking up a little earlier everyday. But that’s enough of that let’s get on into the tips to becoming the morning person!
☆ Create a Routine for Yourself When You Wake Up in the Morning.
I started my routine when I first started to become a morning bird! I feel like I can credit my success to having a routine and sticking to it. This is totally going to be trial and error because you need to find a routine that works for you. This is all based off of what you need to do before heading out in the morning. I personally know that I always need to eat breakfast before heading out so it’s apart of my routine.
☆ Sleep With Your Curtains / Blinds Open.
This probably seems like a weird tip but awhile ago I read somewhere that the best way to naturally wake up is by waking up to natural light. (This doesn’t always work for me when I am waking up at 3 am and there is no sun out but it works on all the other mornings. Haha) Think about it though if you wake up and your curtains are closed and it’s dark you’ll totally want to stay in bed for the rest of the morning. But if you wake up to the natural light it will be near impossible for you to fall back asleep.
☆ Have Something to Motivate You to Wake Up.
In my case I am motivated to wake up early to go to work because I truly enjoy my job. There are a ton of different things that can motivate you to get out of bed in the morning you just have to find the one that works best for you. Maybe it is to get your workout in before heading to work for the day or maybe it’s because you enjoy having productive mornings. I find that having that motivation can make you excited to wake up and get out of bed.
☆ Chug LOTS of Water When You Wake Up.
Your body is so dehydrated in the morning and chugging water can help wake you up faster. I always make sure to have a huge glass of water waiting for me. Add a little lemon to it and it’s a great way to boost your energy when you first wake up. I chug my water before I have even had my morning coffee and it really helps! Trust me you’ll thank me for this tip.
☆ Get Out of Bed When Your Alarm Goes Off… I mean it!
As much as I use to love the snooze button I have realized that it does no good for you. Those five extra minutes of sleep are going to do absolutely nothing but make it harder to get your butt up. Instead of wasting those five minutes they can be used to make a quick smoothie or doing something more valuable to your morning routine. I highly recommend that you start doing this right now!
☆ Ensure You are Getting Enough Hours of Sleep.
I personally have found that I function best when I have a solid seven and a half to eight hours of sleep. Knowing the amount of sleep that you function best on is crucial to being a morning person. Knowing the amount of sleep that I need means that I set myself a bedtime based off of when I need to be up in the morning.
☆ Tell Yourself that You Will Wake Up With Your Alarm.
This tip definitely feels funny to type but it’s an important one to implement. It is all about your mindset, if tell yourself that you will wake up on time then you will. I used this tip when I first started to wake up early in the morning and it helped me a lot. I had my mind set to waking up on time with my alarm and that’s exactly what I did. All you need to do is to say to yourself, ” I will wake up with my alarm, I will wake up with my alarm” before you head off to bed.
☆ Have Breakfast Waiting For You.
Another tip that I use a lot! Like I mentioned I personally need to have something to eat before heading out for the day. One of the best breakfasts to have waiting for you is overnight oats which are delicious or even some healthy muffins. There are a ton of different recipes that you can find to have waiting for you in the morning. This way you can have something to eat without always having to wake up fifteen minutes earlier.
☆ Prepare the Night Before for Your Morning.
This can be something as simple as packing your purse or lunch, to picking out your outfit. Just spending that five minutes the night before can make your morning go that much smoother.
☆ It is all About Your Mindset!
Mindset was mentioned this a little bit before but if you believe that you can become a morning person then you totally will become one! I believe in you now all you have to do is believe that you can be a morning bird, just like me.
I hope that these tips can help you become a morning person. Do you have any tips that you think that I missed? If so, leave them in the comments below- I’d love to hear them.
